Visualizing and Dream Casting
Have you created a vision board before? Do you take the time to purposely dream, cast vision, or think about what you want? Do you regularly ask yourself what you want to create or feel more of in your life?
The first vision board activity I’ve ever participated in, it was part of a group coaching environment. We were told to think about what we want. We were asked over and over again, “What do you want?”
What followed was several minutes of me journaling what I want. It started out with things you’d expect: to lose weight. To increase my income. To rank advance. To eliminate debt. To remodel my house, to travel… the list went on and on. But a minute or two in, I noticed deeper meaning starting to pop up the longer I participated in this exercise. I started to think less about the “things” and more on the feelings. I wanted a better relationship with my family, with my friends. I wanted to leave a legacy. I wanted to be an inspiration to others. I wanted to support and mentor others. I wanted to give back. It was an interesting exercise, one that put me on a path of dreaming, imagining, and creating the life I want ever since.
I’ve held a vision board class for several years now for my team. It’s been so fun to dream with others and see what they want more of in their life.
Here’s a sneak peak of the one I just recently hosted!
I’m a big believer in setting intentions for what you want. Like I shared with this group, I am where I am because of my willingness to dream and think about the possibilities.
One of my favorite mentors, Tiffany Peterson, helped me understand this concept:
“WITHOUT VISION, WE SIMPLY REPEAT WHAT’S FAMILIAR.”
Here’s what I’ve learned about dream casting and visualizing:
-
As Jack Canfield (The Success Principles) states: “When you begin to believe what you want is possible, your brain will actually take over the job of accomplishing that possibility for you. Better than that, your brain will actually expect to achieve that outcome.”
- According to Danielle LaPorte: “We aren’t necessarily chasing the GOAL, rather the FEELING that the goal will give us.” It’s important to ask yourself when dream casting and visualizing, “What do I want to FEEL more of?”
Example: I want to increase my savings.
Why: I want to FEEL financially free. I want to have what I need when I need it. No unforeseen financial stresses. I want to feel stress free, in control, and have CHOICES.
-
We need to be CLEAR so that we take action and are proactive. Saying “I want to lose weight” or “I want to get better grades” isn’t clear. I want to lose 10 pounds. That is clear. That feels like something I can set in motion, make a plan, and make happen!

If I were with you right now, and I set a timer for 2 minutes and asked you over and over again, “what do you want”, what might you find on the list? Leave a comment, share with me what you want to experience more of this year.
Dream with me! Think about the possibilities for yourself this year. Get clear, cast some vision, and pick up a copy of The Success Principles by Jack Canfield to help keep you focused and get you in check if you start to doubt yourself.
