Funding the Fam While Working from Home

Why work from home?

I have always loved contributing to the family budget in any way I can and that means working different types of jobs. While in college, I went through all sorts of odd jobs. One of my favorites was managing an apartment complex on Saturdays to subsidize my rent. I did whatever I could to contribute to the family’s expenses while enjoying my own earnings and spending for my own needs, guilt-free!

When I had children of my own, this did not change. I wanted to continue contributing to the family fund but without having to leave home. If you want to know more about what I do, click here.

Have you ever explored ‘at home’ jobs to make some extra income?

How did I start?

I found opportunities that gave me flexibility by working from home. When I discovered direct sales, it was exciting to think about what was possible if I just put in the work. I wasn’t sure how I could add extra time to my already busy schedule (I was a mother of four kids with ages ranging from 8 down to 1!) Plus, I was also juggling another ‘at home’ business. I thought to myself, how was I going to manage one more thing? How was I going to manage this extra schedule when I already had a lot on my plate?

The key is time blocking! I found the time in the tiny windows of opportunity. I set up a great time blocking system that I still use today and you can do the same thing for yourself. Find that training here to help you manage your time and discover the pockets of time that you have to work.

I have to say I’m living a fairly balanced life. I’m able to get my work in, support my family, and make time for friends and other activities as well. Is my schedule perfect? Definitely not! But it’s exactly what I need and I’m in complete control of what I say yes to. (If you’re interested in doing what I do, feel free to message me, or you can go here to know more.)

Here’s how a typical day in my life goes:

I wake up, do my morning routine, get my kids off to school, and spend time nourishing my social networks which includes responding to posts, checking my email, and getting organized. I often set a timer to make sure I don’t get stuck on a task for too long!

Next, I support my team, work on social media content, do some reach-outs and follow-ups, then I welcome my children home by three in the afternoon.

At times, I have events in the evening so by then, I make sure that the kids are done with homework, dinner is ready, and the household chores are done. Around this time, I don’t mind getting back to work for a little bit.

Is it hard?

For the most part, it’s a pretty smooth process. Sometimes, I tend to over-schedule but I make sure to learn from my mistakes! I have to be careful not to book too much in a day. I advice that you always leave room for unexpected things to pop up!

Overall, I wish to say that working from home is not for everyone. Some prefer to “escape” or work in the office or a different space. However, I truly love working from home. I like being able to work on “home stuff” in between “work stuff”, especially when my kids are sick or when they need my attention. With five children now, something always pops up.

As I type this I have a sick one at home! My daughter and I are working on crafts today in between my scheduled tasks. Because of my flexible work situation, I can be here for her in priceless ways. I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

She doesn’t look very sick in this picture does she?!
