Myth Buster: You don’t have to sink in lots of $$ to be successful in an MLM

If you’ve always thought that starting or getting involved in an MLM was expensive, you’re wrong! While some programs can be great investments for those serious about building an online empire, others can be very costly. But getting started in any multi-level marketing (MLM) venture does not require a large initial investment. In this article, I’ll explain how anyone can get started without spending much money.

Refresh Your Memory on Multilevel Marketing Myths

Arm yourself with the knowledge to avoid pyramid schemes so you can stay away from them. Do your research on direct sales, MLM opportunities, and see if you and your sponsor are compatible.

According to the latest available data, only a tiny percentage of MLM representatives thrive in the industry or make money from it. Is that because of the business model? I don’t believe so! MLM requires effort, discipline, determination, a great product, a compelling why, and an investment of TIME (not necessarily money). You can read more about common traits I’ve seen in successful MLMers here.

Locate a Business That Offers a Product That You Enjoy

If you’re not proud of what you represent or don’t feel what you offer can help, selling or promoting your business to others will be difficult.

Don’t join a network marketing company without doing homework and finding a product you can get behind. In addition, you need to understand the company’s compensation plan. You want to know the terms of how you’re compensated for promoting the products.

Be Honest and Upright

Many representatives in direct selling use exaggerated claims. And, I hate to say it, but they also lie to attract customers. Many people feel that MLM companies are encouraging this type of conduct but, this is not the case.

Those in legitimate MLM organizations want you to be honest with your customers and potential recruits. Your passion for your product is all you need to get the word out about it. Be careful not to make false or exaggerated claims.

Determine Who Your Customers Are

Many rookie MLMers make the blunder of considering everyone as a possible customer or recruit.  Like any other business, you’ll be more successful and efficient if you identify and target your ideal customers and work to HELP others rather than SELL to others.

Do Your Best To Disseminate Your Product/Business Plan to Others

Recruiting new members to an MLM is crucial to its success. However, most of your income comes from selling products or services. In addition, clients who are pleased with the products or services are more likely to become brand ambassadors for the company.

Whether your business is headquartered at home or not, spreading the word about your product or service and how it might benefit your target market is critical. If you have a product to share, you can do it by handing out a free sample, calling a neighbor to hold a product party, or setting up an online presence.

Become a Sponsor, not a Recruiter

The chance to recruit new business owners and profit from the sales they make in their firm is one of the perks of MLM. You’re getting rewarded for helping others achieve, even if others see it as “taking advantage” of them. But for them to thrive, you need to see your role as a leader and trainer, not as someone who recruits as many people as possible. As a result, the emphasis shifts from your advancement to the advancement of the people you assist in your team.

Listen to the Problem and Present the Solution to the Customer

Selling a product or service can be easier with the help of scripts offered by several companies. Always remember that sales are all about becoming the answer to a customer’s problem, and these tools can help you do that. For example, you may personalize your presentation to their situation by qualifying your contact, asking questions, and listening to their demands. Again what you have is not for everyone, LISTEN first to find the problem you may be able to help solve. Ask more, talk less!

Conclusion

One of the most repeated misconceptions about MLM companies is that you need to spend large amounts of money to be successful in them. When I joined I bought a kit and didn’t have to invest any more money unless I chose to (and I didn’t! I was frugal and worked with what I had!). We had incentives in our fast start period that helped us earn free products and supplies.

I took advantage of everything our company had to offer. I didn’t make tremendous amounts of money in the beginning, but I was making progress. It kept me going! And I recognized I was investing more of my time now, for the opportunity of residual income later.

So no, you don’t need a lot of money to start an MLM business. Instead, you need great products, a willingness to meet & talk with people (either in person or online), and solid support structures from your home office that will also support your team members.
