Benefits of an At-Home Business

Have you ever thought about starting an at-home business? What do you think are some of its key benefits? And what are some of the disadvantages?

Last week, I shared more about making your own income. This week, I want to focus on the benefits of having an at-home business!

My top 4 favorite things about starting an at-home business:

For many people, the idea of working from home is a fantasy: no dress code, no commute, and no boss. But what if you could do it? What would your life look like if you can run your business from home? The truth is that it offers some serious benefits.

1. You can create your own schedule

The freedom and flexibility of an at-home business schedule are two of my most favorite things.

When I was working for Corporate America, I LOATHED asking for time off. Going into my boss’s office and requesting time off was my least favorite thing. I can now finally create my schedule exactly how I want it!

When I look at my children who want to earn money, need to earn money, and also want to have a social life, I see that finding jobs that give them income and flexibility is so challenging nowadays. For this reason, we teach our kids about entrepreneurship as early as possible. We believe that this is vital in this new economy where jobs are scarce and competition for them has never been higher.

2. You can work wherever you want to

I haven’t ever paid for office space. My office is in my house.

Sometimes it’s in my car in between pick up and drop off to dance and piano. I like that I can fit calls and respond to emails and messages while I wait in the parking lot for them to be done. Sometimes my work is at the beach, at the vacation home, or in the waiting area of my gym. At a coffee shop, a restaurant, the airplane, the hotel, the library…the list goes on and on.

In short, I can work anywhere!

3. No one telling me that what I’m doing is wrong

I am my only critic. Unless I hire outside coaching, I am the only opinion that I have to listen to (and even with coaching, I don’t HAVE to listen but I’m paying them to share their opinions so might be worth listening!). Ultimately, it’s you who gets to decide what works best for YOU and YOUR business.

You can take all of the advice that people give you—from friends to family members or even professional coaches—and decide if it’s worth implementing or not.

4. I can give myself a raise as often as I’d like to

I’m in control of my pricing and in control of my income-producing activities.

Therefore if I want more, I just figure out a way to make more. There’s definitely no cap on how much money can come into your pocket each month/year/decade when you have an at-home business—it’s up to YOU!

The sky is the limit!

But owning your own business has its challenges as well…

If you don’t put in any work, you’re not likely to see any results. In the same way that, if you take too much time off, you can’t get work done.

When you start a business you’re the only one (typically) who is in charge of the finances, the marketing, the branding, and all the tasks it takes to run a business which can be overwhelming at times.

With this in mind, I have content coming on talking about some of the systems I’ve adopted to help scale and grow and keep you moving forward. Ultimately, your systems can be your biggest asset, and the lack of systems can be your biggest failure. More to come so stay tuned!
